Tasks/Assignments for intern: The Preferred Communities (PC) program supports and provides case management services to refugees and asylees who have special needs, such as significant medical and mental health needs, that cannot be fully addressed through standard resettlement services. Interns in this program will serve as patient advocates, accompany clients to medical appointments, transport clients for lab work and other diagnostic testing, and report follow-up and referrals from providers. They will be able to enroll and develop service plans with clients, all while contributing to the client's ability to thrive in their community with an emphasis on client empowerment. Interns will also have the opportunity to teach classes to adult clients based on their interests and client need through workshops or in 1 on 1 session. Interns will also be expected to collaborate and communicate with staff to ensure compliance with administrative paperwork and case files as needed.
Ideal student description: An ideal student is one who has strong interpersonal, collaboration, and writing skills along with being punctual. This placement would also love to have responsible and adaptable interns who are able to effectively communicate with other staff, clients, and partners.
