Tasks/Assignments for intern: Intern will be expected to assist clients with state and federal benefits applications, recertification, and education on accessing and using benefits. Intern will participate in home visits to collect information for benefits applications. Additional client/family needs that the intern discovers during home visits may be used to make client referrals (both in and out of the agency). Other common tasks include educating clients on paying bills and on home and child safety, assisting clients in making social services appointments, and creating family plans with supervisor(s) to socially and culturally empower families. Intern will participate in coordinating community health and social services initiatives with the goal of crisis prevention. Intern will be responsible for properly documenting client interactions and treatment plans.
Ideal student description: The ideal student for this placement demonstrates cultural humility, can work independently, and exhibits creative critical thinking. This student is a self-starter, and does not require micro management (although they will work closely with BSW staff). The ideal student is interested in Micro work and learning with a vulnerable and high dependency population.
