Tasks/Assignments for intern: Interns provide direct support to CEF Members who are working on their goals in our office setting. They also support office operations, joining our staff team in supervising volunteers who provide that direct support to Members. Interns also identify other projects that align with their interests and CEF's programmatic needs which can include supervising volunteer leadership teams to enhance CEF's services (housing, employment, legal referrals, etc.), organizational (or community) needs assessments, conducting Member Intros (intakes), (organizational or local government) policy research, participating in local collaboratives related to CEF's services (CoC/HOME Committee, OC Local Reentry Council, DVSARC, etc.), designing curricular or resource materials for internal use, supporting CEF's Member-led community advocacy efforts, and more!
Ideal student description: The ideal intern for us would be someone with a passion for Social Justice and Racial Equity and a clear analysis of Racism and other intersecting systems of oppression. We need folks who are ready and excited to show up fully and be a respectful and reliable presence to stand by our Members as they struggle through the impacts of these inequitable systems, and who can treat each person as creative, resourceful and whole. Everyone at CEF is continually learning so we need folks who can help us cultivate a culture of humility and active reflection.
We are committed to the following frameworks and appreciate familiarity with them or an excitement to learn about them: Housing First, Harm Reduction, Trauma Informed Care, Transformative Justice. Our programs tend to best fit interns who have an interest in housing and homelessness, racial justice, disability justice/accessibility (especially related to mental health, trauma, and addiction), and/or financial coaching and economic justice.
