Tasks/Assignments for intern: The intern is expected to provide education on how to recognize and respond to an opioid overdose, education on the state’s Good Samaritan law and information on how to access treatment (medication-assisted, detox, residential, etc) resources in Wake County to people who have experienced an opioid overdose or to people who inject opioids or use them no as prescribed. The intern will also be expected to plan and execute a strategy to engage with people who have experienced an overdose and provide harm reduction services as requested by participants. The intern will also assist the primary outreach worker in Fayetteville, NC on a law-enforcement assisted diversion (LEAD) program to provide harm reduction services. The intern will be expected to attend meetings, trainings and support the primary outreach worker as needed on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. The intern will also provide syringe exchange services in Wake County by either delivery or fixed site locations. The intern will be expected to be knowledgeable on safe injection practices, substance use, STIs, HIV and hepatitis c transmission, prevention, testing and treatment, the legal immunities of the state law authorizing syringe access to people who inject drugs and provide trainings or presentations upon request in Wake County.
