Tasks/Assignments for intern: The Women's Center offers a variety of opportunities in working with various target populations and tasks. All tasks will fall under our program outcomes of education, advocacy and leadership development. Specifics will depend on current center needs and students passions, but preference will be given to students who have an interest and experience in crisis response, survivor support, and advocacy around interpersonal violence, including but not limited to domestic/dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, etc.
Ideal student description: Must be committed to the mission and vision of the Women’s Center and serve as an enthusiastic representative of the Women’s Center. Knowledge of and experience applying trauma-informed approaches to IPV response work. Strong listening and empathy skills and ability to provide mentoring to students as well as crisis intervention and referrals to survivors in a respectful and ethical manner. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability and comfort in working collaboratively with students, staff, faculty, and community members from diverse populations (race, age, class, gender, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to effectively manage time and multiple projects. Ability and willingness to serve as an on-call advocate one week at a time every 4-6 weeks. Must be available occasional nights and weekends. Ability to fulfill work responsibilities in accordance with expectations. Willing to keep open mind, learn & share their perspectives with the team.
