Tasks/Assignments for intern: Interns are asked to evaluate the needs of clients and link them to community resources, primarily for mental health issues, substance abuse treatment, housing and employment. Interns meet with clients in the office, in court, and at the jail. Interns are expected to document contact with clients and follow up with attorneys.
Ideal student description: A student who can take the initiative and cares about helping clients break the cycle with the criminal justice system. This is a new initiative at our office so there is no set way to get clients the services they need. How well it works often depends on whether the intern wants to take charge.
